philosophy of Humanitarian work in Kenya is centered on child-based community development.
*Child-Based: We strategically focus on nurturing and developing children so that they might grow into empowered adults who will be able to become leaders within local communities, different countries, and across the continent of Africa. Each child is loved and cared for in a holistic fashion, encompassing not only their physical and educational needs, but their emotional, social, and spiritual needs as well.
*Community: As children progress through each Children's Home and continue their lives as pillars of their local communities, the process of transforming these communities is heightened due to the knowledge, skills, training, and education the children received during their youth. In turn, the community is better able to use its resources to care for and support vulnerable children, and these children will then be able to build back into the local community, creating a cyclical effect of community growth and rejuvenation. The Children's Home serves as the central hub within the community development cycle.
*Development: Chariots approach to developing and growing communities with the goal of self-sufficiency is primarily accomplished through promoting sustainable living. Teaching sustainability through Income Generating Activities (IGAs) is foundational to Chariots' strategy of long term development in Africa. By working directly with Kenyan nationals we are able to best understand how to empower our children (and the community at large) to become self sufficient as they reach adulthood. As our children grow into young men an women, it is our desire that they would take the vision and understanding of sustainable living into the local communities in which they will reside.
